All colors are welcome in the American Akita. The Pinto Color is not accepted as a Japanese Akita color, but as an American Akita color. In the U.S., some breeders crossed the original Japanese type with the heavier American Art, which is larger and offers more colors. It is by some considered that the combination of the two species leads to an improved appearance and genetic health by increasing the genetic diversity. There is only one akita breed registered by the American Kennel Club, in all other countries except Canada, the race into two races: the Akita Inu, American Akita separately.
Akitas possess a double coat, with a dense straight undercoat, and a thick outer coat. This coat makes the dog waterproof, and as well equipped for the harsh winters in northern Japan. Because of the thickness of the coat, the breed requires daily care, but also an awareness of severe degradation of the dog, especially in warm weather.
The Japanese Akita Inu is a loyal, docile and aloof pet. They are good for the best guest house dogs know they are clean and quiet, only barking when there something to bark about. As a rule they are very friendly and easy going dogs.
Temperament
Akitas, like many dogs were bred, in order to hunt, and can therefore with aggressive tendencies toward small animals. Akitas can also be dominant or aggressive with other dogs, especially the same sex.
Akitas are very clean, intelligent and loyal, easy to train, and consequently are easily bored. Akitas are also documented to be gentle with his young children and babies.
Akitas are very adaptable and can live in happy homes, where they enough exercise.
