How Burglar Alarms Work

While protecting home, their belongings, and even our lives from outside dangers, many of us do not understand how burglar alarms work.

In the good old days, such as burglar alarms work was simple: the dog barked. But now, as burglar alarms work has become a multi-million dollar science in an industry that is rapidly growing and advancing every day.

We asked Home Security Store founder and owner Stacey Winn help us explain how burglar alarms work.

"You will find that there are a variety alarm systems, from do-it-yourself kits for the whole house, the cable systems. But most alarms work on the same core principles, and even the system complex is based on a very basic concept of how burglar alarms, "says Winn.

How burglar alarms work: Circuit Alarm

The first line of defense more common when it comes to how burglar alarms work is to use the principle of the circuit. You can have two circuit alarm types: closed-circuit or open circuit.

The basic concept is the same: an electric circuit runs through a door or window. In an open circuit, electrical current is not completed until the door or window is open, which triggers the alarm. The only drawback to this system is that all the criminal has to do is cut the wires to prevent the circuit from being completed. In a closed circuit, the current is interrupted when the door or window is open, which caused the alarm. The large control panel monitors all doors and windows and once the circuit is broken, the control panel will continue to sound the alarm until someone is reset to a predetermined code.

The control box is often placed in out of the way place so that a criminal can not find and break easily.

The closed loop method of how burglar alarms can be used around the perimeter of the house. Simply create a circuit it will break when a criminal tries to enter and has an alarm system. To ensure that the alarm is triggered if the window is broken and simply not opened, that the very glass of a circuit by running a current through it with a thin aluminum wire.

Even floor mats can be converted into an alarm circuit open. When someone steps on the mat, the circuit is completed and an alarm sounds.

You can put in your house with a closed loop system alarm when the alarm sounds an intruder breaks the circuit. But Once the criminal is inside, you need a completely different approach to how burglar alarms.

How Burglar Alarms Work: Basic Motion Detectors

Circuit alarms are very effective around the exterior of your home and business, because criminals have to pass to enter the perimeter. But once inside, their movements are too unpredictable circuits around the world indoors. Then you have to trust in motion detectors.

You are with motion detectors around the time when you are approaching a door opening that uses automatic radar base motion detector. A control box on the door sends radar waves (either microwave or ultrasound) and waits for waves that are reflected in an irregular pattern, indicating a presence in space. For automatic doors, that the detection of reflection opens the door, while an alarm is triggered the alarm.

So a motion detector works by constantly monitoring a room for irregular wave patterns. When a room is empty, the radar waves behave in a way. But when the movement presents itself in the room, the pattern changes and the sensor detects the change will trigger the alarm.

How Alarms theft of work: more advanced motion sensors

Apart from radar-based motion detectors, photo sensor are also motion detectors. How burglar alarms work in this case consists of light beams. You direct the beam of light into a light sensor through a corridor of his house. When someone walks through it, the light beam is broken and the sensor activates the alarm.

More advanced are passive infrared (PIR) motion detectors. These motion detectors see the heat released by a body. Although the infrared energy tends to fluctuate in a given space, a PIR motion sensor activates the alarm only when the energy rises rapidly, ie when a human being, whose average body temperature is 98.6 degrees, otherwise enters a room of about 80 degrees.

If you have a motion sensor alarm system, there are usually a few seconds delay in the control box to give you the opportunity to retire the alarm when entering the room.

How burglar alarms work has progressed beyond Barking Dogs and hanging pots and pans. The science of how the measures applied burglar alarms time and space, incorporating all the room in safety. A good alarm system would combine the two circuits and motion sensor alarms, giving two lines of defense when it comes to how burglar alarms work.
